Pol Roger Portfolio Welcomes Mount Mary – A Jewel of Australian Winemaking
Pol Roger Portfolio is thrilled to announce the addition of Mount Mary to its esteemed family of wine and spirit producers. This partnership marks a significant moment, bringing one of Australia’s most celebrated wineries back to the UK market after a long absence.
Founded in 1971 by Dr John and Marli Middleton in the heart of Victoria’s Yarra Valley, Mount Mary is synonymous with elegance, longevity, and single-site expression. As one of the region’s pioneers, the Middletons recognised the potential of a north-facing slope in Coldstream, an area left untouched by the Swiss settlers of the 1850s. This dedication to site and terroir has been the backbone of Mount Mary’s philosophy, earning it a place as one of the world’s top 100 wineries in the 2024 Halliday Wine Companion.
Today, the third generation of Middletons – siblings Sam and Claire – continues this legacy with a focus on sustainability and innovation. Under their stewardship, Mount Mary has moved away from chemical herbicides, explored previously unplanted plots, and refined its commitment to crafting wines of unmatched finesse.
The winery’s portfolio features four iconic wines:
- Quintet, a Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec, is the flagship.
- Pinot Noir, produced in minuscule quantities, reflects the winery’s mastery of finesse.
- Triolet, a Bordeaux-style white blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Muscadelle, offers a distinctively fresh expression.
- Chardonnay, inspired by Burgundy, showcases the Yarra Valley’s potential for producing world-class whites.
This partnership complements Pol Roger Portfolio’s Australian offering, which includes Mulline Vintners from Geelong and Voyager Estate from Margaret River. Each brings a distinct identity, from Mulline’s fresh, fruit-forward style to Voyager’s classic coastal-influenced wines. Mount Mary’s addition highlights the diversity and excellence of Australian winemaking, especially its historic role in establishing the Yarra Valley as a premium wine-producing region.
To celebrate this exciting partnership, the full Mount Mary range will be available for trade and press tastings in London on 4th March and Manchester on 6th March 2025 at the Portfolio Tasting.
Will Dennison, Head of Fine Wine at Pol Roger Portfolio, shared his enthusiasm:
2025 marks 35 years of Pol Roger Portfolio, and what feels like a full circle moment in the wine world. Australia is a beautiful thread in the history of winemaking, and there is a cohort of producers leading its reinvigoration. Mount Mary has been at the forefront of single-site expression for fifty years, and we are thrilled to reintroduce these wines into the UK.
